Facebook Vs Instagram Ads

As we have mentioned, social media advertising is readily available and quick and easy to implement. We have previously taken you through all the things you should consider when creating a social media advert, so now let’s take a look at the different types of adverts you can create with Facebook and Instagram.

Both of these platforms are visual and owned by Facebook, so it is no wonder when you get to grips with one, the other will follow but remember your audience as to which platform you go with.

Image ads

Facebook

Facebook ads allow 125 characters of text as well as a headline and link description. They also include the all-important call to action button which may be “shop now” or “send message” depending on your goal

Quick Tip: Consumers will respond well to images of someone using your product. Facebook ads are great to showcase products.

Instagram

Instagram image ads are very similar in setup but look like any other regular Instagram post when they appear in the feed, the only difference being that there it will say “sponsored” and have a call to action.

Quick Tip: Make sure your advert is consistent with organic posts, so users can associate between the two.

Video Adverts

Video marketing has become a real buzz phrase in marketing, as more than 80% of people watch videos online and evidence suggests that using a video ad can increase sales by up to 40%.

Facebook

Facebook allows you to create a multitude of videos ranging from short 15 second videos to 240 feature-length videos. Shorter videos tend to have higher engagement rates as a user’s attention span can be shorter online.

Instagram

Instagram allows you to create videos up to 2 minutes and gives you the opportunity to share more complex, in depth stories that cannot be conveyed in a single image.

Quick Tip: Why not try A/B testing and put video against imagery for your ads and see what your target audience engage with most. This can provide great insight and steer for future advertising campaigns.

Carousel Adverts

A carousel ad lets you use multiple images that the user can scroll through, each with their own link and call to action. Carousels are great if you want to tell a story through images, like step by step how to use a product or to showcase a product range.
